The journey leads from the Van Gogh Museum Amsterdam, where two paintings disappeared in 2002 and resurfaced only in 2016 in a villa belonging to the Neapolitan Camorra, to Friedenstein Castle in Gotha, from which five Dutch masterworks vanished in 1979, to a missing Caravaggio from Palermo still on the FBI Top‑10 list of most-wanted artworks.
