LOOK ME OVER - LIBERACE

Er war Amerikas erstes Idol, Ikone, Prunk-Pianist, Popstar, Egomane und Showgigant: Liberace. Der Dokumentarfilm fokussiert sich an diversen Originalschauplätzen – rund 30 Jahre nach Liberaces Tod – auf sein Psychogramm. Im Zentrum steht seine Lebens- und Erfolgsgeschichte als Teil des American Dream inmitten der Bigotterie einer gespaltenen Gesellschaft.

He was America's first idol, icon, showman pianist, pop star, egomaniac and entertainment giant: Liberace. The documentary focuses on his psychological portrait at various original locations — around 30 years after Liberace's death. At its centre is his life and success story as part of the American Dream, amid the bigotry of a divided society.

Liberace knew the entire Hollywood Who's Who and lived his maxim "I don't give concerts, I put on shows" with conviction: he took to the stage in a mirrored white Rolls-Royce and a metres-long chinchilla coat. He disarmed every critic with self-deprecation — and became the favourite son-in-law of millions of mothers.

So legendär wie seine glitzernden Auftritte, so paradox war sein öffentliches Leben.
